The Philippine Librarians Association-National Capital Region (PLAI-NCR) Librarians Council will hold its Annual General Assembly on the 10th of February 2012, Friday, 1:00-5:00 p.m. at the Epifanio de los Santos Auditoirum, 6/F The National Library of the Philippines, T. M. Kalaw St., Ermita, Manila with the following Agenda:

Part I General Assembly meeting:
1. Call to order
2. Determination of Presence of Quorum
3. Approval of the minutes of Last Year’s Annual General Meeting
4. Annual Report of the President
5. Treasurer’s Report
6. Other Matters as may be properly brought before the Meeting

The PLAI National Capital Region Librarians Council (PLAI-NCRLC) held its annual general assembly and election of new set of officers for 2007-2008 at the National Library Auditorium, November 5, 2007.

Elected as members of the Nominations and Elections Committee are: Melba Tablizo, Rosalinda Robles, Ofelia Gonzales, Christopher Paras, Fe Haico, Marites Luber, and George Irwin Rada.

The winning candidates to the NCR House of Delegates are: Milagros Santos-Ong, Sally Tuason, Leonila Galvez, Arlene Marzo, Lourdes Añonuevo, Yolanda Odsinada, and Eliza Galang.

Voted to represent the NCRLC to the PLAI Board of Trustees are: Nora J. Claravall, Sonial Lourdes David, Lilia Echiverri, Dolores Flora, Ana Fresnido, Teresita Hernandez, and Jocelyn Ladlad.

The Council Members of the PLAI-NCRLC for 2007-2008 are: Rodolfo Y. Tarlit, Fe Abelardo, Lilia Echiverri, Nora J. Claravall, Belen Vibar, Teresita Hernandez, and Jocelyn Ladlad.

The Philippine Librarians Association, Inc. (PLAI) will hold a National Congress on “Developing Competencies: Challenges and Issues,” and a General Assembly on November 12-14, 2007 at the De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde, Angelo King International Center, Arellano Ave., cor. Estrada St., Malate, Manila.

The Congress will enable participants to look at their library environment and better understand the range of area that has to be enhanced and to identify the skills that are used daily and to further widen their sphere of influence within and outside their organization.

Congress fee is Php 3,800.00.

Commission on Higher Education, Civil Service Commission and Department of Education memoranda allowing would be participants to attend the Congress and General Assembly are available.

The House of Delegates and the General Assembly Meeting of members of the PLAI will be on November 14, 2007, the last day of the Congress, at 8:30 A.M. – 12:00 NN and 1:00 P.M. – 5:00 P.M., respectively. PLAI members are enjoined to attend.

The Philippine Librarians Association, Inc. – National Capital Region Librarians Council will hold its 3rd activity “Colloquium on the State-of-the- Art of Selected NCR Libraries” to be held at The National Library Auditorium, T.M. Kalaw Street, Ermita, Manila on 7
November 2007 from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.


The Colloquium aims to inform the librarians on the latest developments in the four (4) types of libraries in the National Capital Region.


Following the Colloquium is a General Assembly and Election of new set of officers from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.


For the second time this year, this Colloquium is FREE. Membership Fee (Php 200.00) will be assessed.

The Philippine Librarians Association, Inc. (PLAI) and its National Capital Region Librarians Council (NCRLC), in cooperation with the National Book Store and Anvil Publishing, Inc., cordially invite librarians, archivists, other information professionals and students of library and information science and archives to a forum entitled: Managing Disasters for Libraries, to be held, August 30, 2007, Thursday, 10:00 A.M. – 2:00 P.M. at Function C, World Trade Center, Gil J. Puyat Ave., corner Diosdado Macapagal Blvd., Pasay City, Metro Manila.

Professor Heather Mansell, Preservation Consultant and Secretary, State Library of New South Wales, Australia, has been invited to talk on safety issues, prioritizing and recovery strategies to normalize operations after a disaster.

The objectives of the forum are: 1) to prepare libraries for emergencies and disasters; 2) to teach librarians and archivists on how to assess extent of damage and assemble resources; 3) to assist librarians and archivists in developing recovery plans; and 4) to help librarians and archivists implement treatment and recovery techniques according to standards.

Registration fee is Php 100.00. Students will be given 50 % discount.
